Easy. If you plant your garden with seeds, water daily, surface water until they sprout. Once plants are established water deep (longer periods of time) every other day — depending on your conditions. If you set out started plants water deep. Fertilize monthly. Keep weeds pulled. Depending on the type of plants you grow (tomatoe as an example) remove "suckers" (unwanted side sprouts) You’ll do fine. shame on the local gardener for cheating you!
