I am getting ready to plant grass in a section of my backyard that is 15′ x 75′, irregularly shaped. I am trying to see which is more cost effective out of sod or seed, so i need help deciding how much seed i would need. I plan to seed very heavily because the area has never been grassy- rock landscaping- and i think it may be harder to grow grass there. any advice? Firstly remove the existing grass which is hard work. Pick and shovel job. Then beat the soil with a shovel and rake out the grass. Level the top soil with a rake. The next step is to buy your seed. I suggest wilkinsons hardare and Diy chain. I bought mine there and it cost about £20 which was the only cost. Turf probably would have cost £300-400. Spread the seed evenly and rake lightly. I watered the garden every day and its now growing nicely. Hope this helps. Post a comment
