What are some aquatic plants that do well in ponds?

I have a really small pond in my yard and i was thinking about adding more plants. The pond holds 18 gallons of water and has a diameter of 20 inches. Comet goldfish and small guppies live in there. What kind of aquatic plants would be best for the pond?

My pond is about 3′x3′. I have water lettuce that likes to spread but, you can just pull out the extras and thrown them in the compost pile if they get too wild. Water Hyacinthe will get to big for your pond in a hurry. a single mature plant will cover most of it. Duckweed is a tiny little round pond plant that also goes wild. Just scoop it out and compost the extra. To keep your pond pretty clear as the summer progresses you must keep at least 40% of the surface shaded. These plants will all do a good job at that. They provide shade and hiding places for the guppies.

One water Hyacinthe and/or one water lettuce would be enough for your pond. They Hyacinthe can be invasive so don’t throw it in the waterways. Frost kills both of these plants. They are carefree and help clean up the pond too. That’s why they were introduced in the Southern part of the US. They do a good job filtering the water clean. Now they are creating problems. The duck weed you can pick up at any lake or pond once summer arrives. it covers everything near the edge. It’s free. These three all take crowding so if you don’t get thinning them immediately there will be no loss of plants. They reproduce like crazy. These leave the most of the space water volume under them you for the fish.

the pond i have is a pre-moulded plastic one and its about 21 inches deep, and i need some fish to put in it, any recomendations?

21" is not that deep unless it’s really shaded with plenty of vegetation inside.

Koi fishes are the best to have because they’re not very dirty and adapt in different climates, they’re the tougher fish from the goldfish family; don’t get the actual goldfish because they’re very dirty and will die easier in a pond.

Also them plecostomus, or however they’re spelled, get some small one of those, they help clean the bottom of the pond (they eat the fishes mess, etc) and grow pretty big.

I have heard of the idea of birds or ducks naturally stocking the pond but always thought this to be a myth. I was wondering if anyone has could provide me with some help.

That actually is often the way it happens. Also, in rainy seasons, overflow and small temporary creeks carry eggs and small fish into new bodies of water.

will plants designed for manmade ponds work in my cove?

I live on a cove, on a river in Maine. It is shallow (4 ft at its center) and about as big as a hockey rink. lilly pads bloom all summer in it, i’m wondering if i can intrduce storebought flowering water plants to it. it is well circulated with lots of wildlife in it. Any suggestions?

Of course you can. I would stick with natives and realize that the plants will grow at the edges of your cove and most likely will not venture past about the first foot of water. Since I am in a subtropical climate, I don’t know what is hardy up there, but any native that likes wet feet will grow for you. I know that cattails will, for one. Check with a local aquatic nursery or online for hardy plants.

I was watching the sims 2 seasons designer walk through and i noticed that there were fish in the pond that he was showing so i was wondering how you get the fish there?

My brother might be able to help with that, but I have not played that game in ages. Are you sure you have the expansion pack you can do that with? Try the sims homepage, they might be able to give you some instruction.

Do landfill companies actually excavate ponds for landowners for free in exchange for the soil?

I am planning to put a 3 acre fishing pond on my land and I have heard that landfill companies will excavate the pond for free so they can use the soil for a landfill. Is this true? I also heard the same about big landscaping firms but have no idea if it is true. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I am "finally" moving into my first home and would love to put in a pond to stock and to attract water fowl.

Well, where I live, it’s not a landfill or landscaping company–it’s the excavator. My husband is a general contractor, and was able to arrange for about 3000 yards of dirt to be removed from our property at no cost to us.

The trick is having a relationship with an excavator, having the time to allow him to do it on his schedule, and the excavator having a job nearby for which he needs your dirt.

No one is going to do it so they have to haul the dirt and store it somewhere. If so, they’ll charge you. If they happen to come across a job nearby, they may be willing to do it to lessen the trucking charges (if your place is nearer than a gravel pit).

The mini lazer is very good value in the serious level – and as good at fleet racing as it gets just like the real thing. The E-bay asian metre class yachts are possibly good value, but I have rarely used the toy end of the market so can’t offer personal experience with them. RC yachts much smaller than a metre long tend to be very restricted on the conditions that suit them, but even the tiny ones are good within their abilities.

so i ran out of my moisturizer and the only i have left is my ponds cold cream for normal to dry skin can i use it as moisturizer for everyday use?! please and thanks best answer gets 10 points !

Not really, as it is too greasy. I also do not think it is a non-comodogenic product (prevents the start of blackheads). Most of your high end moisturizers state this on the label.
Cold creams are more for removing make-up and a little bit left on over night is fine if washed off in the morning.
