I don’t know the first thing about gardening, but I would like to plant a couple plants, and keep my garden looking nice over the summer. Any hints or tips?
Any garden needs to have some preparation before anything should be planted. If you did not prepare a site–remove sod, ammedn the soil and till–perhaps you should try container gardening to begin with. Tomatoes are great to start with. They are easy and have great results within weeks.
Cherry tomatoes ripen quickly. Put one plant into a 10" pot in full sun. Water only when the soil begins to dry a bit.
Larger varieies will need staking and also a large pot–one plant into a 12" or 14" is good.
You can grow peppers as well.
In any case, starting small is far more rewarding when you are successful. If you jump in too quickly, you may become discouraged and give up too soon!

I honestly do not know if there is a degree specifically for that.
But for the landscaping design itself (which is what the water feature falls under) architecture with an eye for landscaping may be helpful as well as classes and electives covering computer aided design.
Some classes on Botany might not go amiss either. Something to help you figure out what plants complement each other and will play nice with the local flora and fauna.

The answer is in the detail pictures, starting with the second one, which unfortunately don’t allow direct access to their link.
There are two heavy side beams which extend through the wall to a foundation which contains a recirculating pump and flow tank as well as (ideally) an adjustment mechanism to relevel the table over time as the building shifts. The table surface is two glass panes with spacers sealing the edges and the water overflows the flow tank and runs across the glass and out the edge to the pool where it is sucked up again.
However spectacular it looks, it is almost unusable in my opinion – I could not sit at it and use it based on my experience with tables with thick sides. If you look at the picture with the table angling out – the second of the small images below – and imagine sitting close to the wall, you can perhaps judge that there are very few inches between the bottom of the beam and the seating surface – you would have to be a waif thin models to get your legs in there. And my legs are not waif thin. If I am wrong and there is enough space, then the surface of the table will be several inches higher than we are used to for ordinary use.
And don’t forget that glass on glass (like bottles and drinking glasses) tends to scratch.
