My yard is of a sandy nature. Is there a grass seed for such soil and can it be planted in the early fall?

YOU CAN PLANT GRASS SEED ANY TIME OF THE YEAR UNLESS IT’S FROZEN OUT, OBVIOUSLY. THE SAME GOES FOR SOD. I LIVE IN A SIMILAR AREA. I WOULD PERSONALLY USE REGULAR GRASS SEED RATHER THAN RYE. USE WHAT WILL DO BEST IN SHADE OR SUN DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU HAVE. MOST ALL GRASS SEED WILL GROW IN ABOUT ANYTHING, THERE IS NO NEED FOR ALL THAT FANCY SOIL STUFF. THAT’S USUALLY A LOT OF RHETORIC FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE AND HAVE ONLY READ THAT. YOU’LL JUST WANT TO WATER IT WELL AND IT WILL BE FINE. NEXT YEAR YOU WILL WANT TO START A REGULAR FERTILIZING SCHEDULE, I DO THAT ABOUT 4 TIMES A YEAR WITH WEED AND FEED AND WATER WELL. HAVE FUN!

no it will die in the winter depending on where you live and you need fertile soil

yes,,but you should mix in some peat moss or topsoil first,to give the seed a more solid base to root into. personally i prefer seeding in the spring..

You need to add dirt and organic matter ( about 30% each ) – And fall is the best time to start seeded grass. Sod may be different.

It depends on what type of grass you want and what region you live in. My dad, husband, and myself just finished sowing seed about an hour ago. We sowed Marshall Rye grass seed. It is pretty and green in the winter and is cold weather tolerant (but we live in the South). It is very hardy, but it only lasts for that year; you have to plant it again next year. I think it’s worth it though. A lot of people use it to aid with erosion during the winter months. All you do is, spread the seed on top of the ground and let it grow! Nothing to it! One man told me that he believed it would grow on concrete! (ha,ha,ha)

Check with your home & garden store or county extension office. They should be able to tell you about it more. Good Luck!

Yes, you can winterize your grass. Just be sure to use water afterwards. My friend uses it every fall.
